When I was first asked to photograph Nicolette’s birth of her 2nd son, I will totally admit I got super giddy about it. Like anyone who loves photography, the thought of capturing those moments is not unlike the thought of bringing a life into the world. It’s exciting, it’s new, it is certainly different. What I didn’t think about was the intensity and the love I would witness during the three days this amazing and powerful woman was in labor. From her midwife Rebecca and student midwife Heather, to her husband Josh, to her doula Kristina, the love and support surrounding Nicolette was incredible. Nicolette’s home birth of her son had every element of an intense and inspiring experience, and left me in awe and amazement. I kid you not, I was on a total high for about 3 hours after I left her home. (It could have been the lack of sleep and functioning on caffeine and Wawa for two days, every photographer’s gotta learn how to do this somehow!)
But in all seriousness, Josh & Nicolette were an amazing and loving team, the professionalism and love of her midwife & student midwife was outstanding, and her doula was nurturing and supportive. Nicolette possesses a strength and determination that served as an inspiration for moms well beyond the walls of her home.
I’ll let the photos below speak for themselves.
Welcome Baby Artimus! You are one awesome little dude!
Cheers!
