Ohana Means Family

07-13 / by Liz Scavilla / Leave a Comment

Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind.
Lilo, ‘Lilo & Stitch’

From an early age, I’ve learned a thing or two about the importance of family, especially after I had my daughter more than three years ago. Not just having relatives, but having FAMILY. It’s something special, a bond that you can’t duplicate or create out of thin air. It takes time. It takes effort. It takes lots of love and patience. There will be tears, temper tantrums, and dirty diapers. But there will also be late night snuggles, little flutters of kicks inside of your belly, midday phone calls from your loved ones just to say hi.

I love the movie ‘Lilo & Stitch” (yes, I said I have a three-year-old….soooooo of course we’ve watched it about 4 dozen times) but the quote that will always stay with me is the one on Ohana. I have never been to Hawaii but I imagine the beautiful word ‘Ohana’ rolling off the tongues of the natives when they embrace their loved ones and it brings a smile to my face.

Nicolette, Josh & Atlas were absolutely the embodiment of family. Nicolette and Josh have baby #2 on the way, and although we didn’t get that essential sibling-kissing-mama’s-belly shot (haha, yes, Atlas, I’m talking to you!!) we totally had a blast! We headed to the beach over the Dunlawton Bridge and we got some beautiful photos during ‘the magic hour’ (around sunset). Enjoy some family inspiration! IMG_6812

Here’s to Ohana!

Cheers!
