Everyone is the age of their heart.”
-Guatemalan Proverb
When I was younger I truly remember feeling the empowerment of my youth. Since becoming a wife and mother, I still can find the inspiration of those feelings, I see it every day with my daughter. I feel empowered every day for different reasons right now – from running my own business, to helping new moms with La Leche League International, to being a mother to a beautiful and healthy 3 year old, to being a devoted and loving wife. These are all things in my youth I didn’t have, but in my youth I had a different agenda. The days and nights seemed longer, sleeping in was a regular occurrence and not a privilege, and I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. I don’t get all crazy about “kids these days” because they all figure it out on their own.
Ashley is one of the most mature, soft-spoken and intelligent young people I have ever met. She is driven, ambitious, and good-hearted. She and I have talked for a while about doing some photos for her and of course I wanted to capture her youthfulness but also her carefree, yet mature side. We headed down to Ponce Inlet’s Lighthouse Park with the ocean in the background and the salt air blowing in the breeze. Here are some of my favorite shots (including one with her 12 year old Bichon Frise Cody) :
Here’s to being the age of your heart!
Cheers,
