The Shores of Your Souls: A Beach Proposal

03-15 / by Liz Scavilla / Leave a Comment

“Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it be rather a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”
– Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

When Scot contacted me to photograph his proposal to his girlfriend, Kerry, I immediately said yes. He proceeded to tell me how they met and how he was going to propose to her. What he told me next just made my heart swell with joy.

Kerry’s ten year old daughter, Libby, would also be with them when Scot popped the question. He wanted to do it after church, on Valentine’s Day, at the end of Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Not only would he be giving Kerry a beautiful ring, but he also got Libby a memorable piece of jewelry as well – a ring with their three birth stones in it, to signify his dedication to both Libby and her mother.

Squeeeee!!! Yes, I started crying as he was telling me this amazing idea. So around rolled Valentine’s Day, and me and my trusty assistant (Liz S. #2) went to Flagler Ave to to photography an unaware Kerry and Libby with Scot – I think we were pretty good secret squirrels.

I’ll let the photos tell the story.

Spoiler alert: She said yes!

Credit for this shot needs to go to Liz S. #2!
