A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.
It’s been said that friends are the family you choose. But I feel that family are the friends and mentors that are chosen for you. I’ve had the love of two father figures in my life – my own father, Alan, and my stepfather, Phil. They’ve been there for me equally and very different ways, and I’m thankful for their presence in my life.
I am just as lucky to have an amazing man as the father of our daughter, Lorelei. He works hard and I don’t tell him that enough. He has been there for Lorelei from the very moment she was born, and I know that bond will be with them for the rest of their lives. I love watching him watch her grown and learn, it’s a curious thing – seeing a grown man dwarfed emotionally by such a small little girl. But yet he learns from her every day. And of course, she learns from him as well.
The guidance of a father is like that of no other. Today is the day to celebrate that.
All our love to the men out there who know the awesomeness that is the love of a child. Whether you’re a biological parent, stepparent, or adopted parent, all you dads out there are awesome.
